Neuropsychologisch onderzoek en het alledaags functioneren

Samenvatting

Neuropsychologen wordt in toenemende mate gevraagd om uitspraken te doen over het dagelijks functioneren van mensen met een hersenaandoening, zoals een niet-aangeboren hersenletsel of dementie. In veel gevallen wordt dan gebruikgemaakt van neuropsychologische tests om deze uitspraken te onderbouwen. Het is echter onvoldoende onderzocht in hoeverre neuropsychologen betrouwbare en valide uitspraken kunnen doen over het alledaags functioneren op basis van met name de neuropsychologische testgegevens. Dit artikel geeft een overzicht van een aantal studies dat gedaan is om de relatie tussen neuropsychologische tests en het dagelijks leven te onderzoeken. Afgesloten wordt met klinische implicaties en aanbevelingen.
