Ontkenning als verklaring van zelfidealisatie bij kinderen in een psychiatrisch centrum

Samenvatting

Veel kinderen met psychiatrische problemen vertonen een positiever zelfconcept dan op grond van de empirische literatuur en klinische inzichten verwacht wordt. In dit onderzoek wordt de hypothese getoetst of ontkenning een verklaring hiervoor kan zijn. Van 60 kinderen, verwezen naar een psychiatrisch centrum, werden de verhalen op de Children's Apperception Test (cat) geanalyseerd. Het zelfconcept werd vastgesteld met behulp van de Competentiebelevingsschaal voor Kinderen (cbsk). De veronderstelde samenhang werd gedeeltelijk bevestigd. De geïdealiseerde zelfevaluatie betrof goed functioneren op school en er fysiek goed uitzien. Die zelfevaluatie wordt vanuit een maatschappelijk en ontwikkelingspsychologisch perspectief verklaard, alsmede de betekenis hiervan voor het gevoel van eigenwaarde.
