semenvatting
Summary
There is growing empirical evidence of low self–esteem in children with antisocial behaviour. The development of a low self–esteem in these children is attributed to other's negative opinions toward the antisocial child. Since there is no evidence that low self–esteem causes antisocial behaviour, improving the antisocial child's self–worth is not a primary goal in treatment; this improvement, however, can be obtained indirectly when the antisocial child learns more adequate skills for solving social problems. Some antisocial children defend themselves narcissistically against their low self–esteem; this complicates their treatment.
