Four of the main national advisory boards in the Netherlands - on public health and health care, education, public administration, and social economy - issued a joint advice to upgrade health in all policies by making it a central issue in a new coalition agreement after the forthcoming national elections in 2011. Four public health specialist from different fields react. All acknowledge there is still a long way to go, but agree that the unity of this advice is a step forward compared to common practice in the Netherlands. The public health sector itself must invest substantially in communication, process and networking skills.
