De dynamiek van cognitie en emotie in de ontwikkeling van angststoornissen bij kinderen

Samenvatting

Verstoorde gedachten en afwijkingen in cognitieve processen als aandacht en geheugen blijken samen te hangen met angst bij kinderen. Nagegaan wordt in hoeverre ze specifiek zijn voor angstproblemen, welke rol de omgeving speelt bij de vorming van angstgerelateerde cognities, onder welke voorwaarden angst cognitief gereguleerd kan worden, en of de veronderstelling dat bepaalde kinderen cognitief kwetsbaar zijn voor het ontwikkelen van angststoornissen houdbaar is. Meer longitudinaal onderzoek blijkt nodig om de causale rol van cognities bij angst te kunnen beoordelen. Beargumenteerd wordt dat effectonderzoek rond cognitieve gedragstherapie een bijdrage kan leveren aan het toetsen van cognitieve theorieën van angst bij kinderen.
