Carla P. Davis’s book, Girls & Juvenile Justice: Power, Status, and the Social Construction of Delinquency, details her study of girls in a co-ed juvenile institution. She uses direct observation and in-depth interviews not only to examine the young girls’ lives while inside the institution, but also to examine a process that begins with coming into contact with the juvenile justice system and ends with reintegration once released.
