In this response we provide answers to three important points in Delfos’ annotation. We point out that our article and our conclusions focus on friendship needs, without drawing conclusions about friendship in general. In that regard the criticism of the denial of the existence of different forms of friendship is not relevant. In addition, we argue that it is incorrect to say that agentic needs are “inconsistent with the sheer concept of friendship”. We think that this is not a matter of confusion regarding concepts but merely a matter of misperception.
