Delfos, M. F. (2006). Gender differences in friendship needs: confusion of concepts. Comments on Palmen, Van Roij, Vermande, Dekovic and Van Aken. Kind en Adolescent, 27 (3), 180-182.
In research on gender differences in friendship needs, concepts related to evolution theory are used: ‘communal needs’ and ‘agentic needs’. The fact that no fundamental gender differences exist in friendship needs is associated to the concepts used. Friendship needs must be distinguished from the way friendships are moulded. Gender differences are less to be expected in friendship needs than in the process of making friends. Agentic needs are inconsistent with the sheer concept of friendship.
