Samenvatting

In dit artikel geven we een overzicht van het empirische onderzoek naar de nadelige effecten van televisiereclame op kinderen en adolescenten. We bespreken bestaande hypothesen over de invloed van reclame op materialisme, gezinsconflict en ongezonde eetgewoonten. De validiteit van elk van deze hypothesen hebben we getest met behulp van een ‘vote-counting’ analyse. Het kijken naar televisiereclame correleert zwak tot gematigd met zowel materialisme, gezinsconflict als ongezonde eetgewoonten. Ons onderzoeksoverzicht leidt tot verschillende werkhypothesen en suggesties voor toekomstig onderzoek.
