Zelfwaardering en acceptatie door leeftijdgenoten

Een longitudinaal onderzoek bij basisschoolkinderen

Samenvatting

Het longitudinale verband tussen zelfwaardering (Competentiebelevingsschaal voor Kinderen) en acceptatie door leeftijdgenoten (sociometrische rating- en nominatieprocedure) werd onderzocht in een steekproef van 164 negen- tot twaalfjarige kinderen. De resultaten tonen ten eerste een matige stabiliteit voor zelfwaardering en acceptatie door leeftijdgenoten. Ten tweede hangt acceptatie door leeftijdgenoten op negenjarige leeftijd samen met vrijwel alle domeinen van zelfwaardering, maar op twaalfjarige leeftijd voornamelijk met zelfwaardering op sociaal vlak. Ten derde blijkt dat ‘peeracceptatie’ op twaalfjarige leeftijd alleen voorspeld kan worden vanuit de vroegere ‘peeracceptatie’. Zelfwaardering op twaalfjarige leeftijd wordt niet alleen voorspeld vanuit de vroegere zelfwaardering, maar ook vanuit de vroegere acceptatie door leeftijdgenoten.
