Lichaamsbeeld en homoseksuele mannen: adaptatie van emotionally-focused family therapy voor homoseksuele cliënten

Samenvatting

Homoseksuele mannen zijn vaak minder tevreden met hun lichaam en hebben een negatiever lichaamsbeeld dan heteroseksuele mannen. Dit heeft een sterk verband met culturele druk, de ontwikkeling van de seksuele identiteit, gezinsrelaties en hechtingsstijl. Toch zijn er maar weinig therapeutische hulpmiddelen beschikbaar voor de uitzonderlijke stressoren van homoseksuele mannen die het moeilijk hebben met hun lichaamsbeeld en daaraan gerelateerde factoren en de invloed van het gezin op deze stressoren. In dit artikel geven we een beschrijving van een adaptatie van Emotionally-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) voor de behandeling van homoseksuele cliënten die het moeilijk hebben met hun lichaamsbeeld. We bespreken de herkadering van negatieve interactiecirkels die verband houden met afwijzing door de ouders en lichaamsbeeld en laten zien hoe een enactment-interventie gebruikt kan worden als helingsinstrument.
