13. Leefstijl – relevant voor lichaam én psyche

Samenvatting

In lijn met bredere ontwikkelingen binnen de zorg is ook in de geestelijke gezondheidszorg (ggz) steeds meer aandacht voor de invloed van leefstijlfactoren, zoals beweging, voeding, middelengebruik en slaapgewoonten. Leefstijlfactoren spelen een belangrijke rol bij de somatische gezondheid en de kortere levensduur van mensen met een psychiatrische stoornis ten opzichte van de algemene bevolking. Het betrekken van leefstijlfactoren in de behandeling in de ggz is tevens van belang omdat deze factoren ook sterk samenhangen met de psychische gezondheid. Er is inmiddels overtuigend bewijs voor de rol die leefstijlfactoren spelen in het ontstaan, persisteren en verergeren van psychische gezondheidsproblemen. In dit hoofdstuk bespreken we de achtergrond en rol van deze leefstijlfactoren bij mensen met een psychiatrische aandoening. Vervolgens gaan we in op mogelijke interventies op het gebied van deze factoren, de effecten daarvan en de klinische implicaties die dit met zich meebrengt. Tot slot werpen we een blik op de benodigde richting in toekomstig onderzoek op dit gebied.
