14. Werken met het lichaam in psychotherapie

Samenvatting

In handleidingen van psychotherapeutische methoden moet je vaak met een vergrootglas op zoek naar passages over de rol van lichamelijkheid. In tegenstelling tot het lichaam zoals dat talig wordt ervaren en het biologische lichaam uit de geneeskunde en neurowetenschappen, heeft het geleefde en beleefde lichaam zeker geen centrale plaats in de psychologie en psychotherapie. Dat is merkwaardig, omdat de patiënt met zijn of haar lichaam voortdurend voor ons zit en mee-spreekt. In dit hoofdstuk ga ik eerst dieper in op rol van subjectief beleefde lichamelijkheid bij psychologische aandoeningen. Vervolgens focus ik op het belang van belichaamd of embodied mentaliseren, de capaciteit om te kunnen stilstaan bij en reflecteren over lichamelijke ervaringen en hun rol in ons psychisch functioneren. Ik ga ook in detail in op basisprincipes en -technieken die men kan inzetten om het belichaamde mentaliseren bij patiënten te vergroten en illustreer deze aan de hand van voorbeelden uit klinische praktijk.
