De gevolgen van kindermishandeling vergeleken met eenmalig trauma: verschillen in traumatische stresssymptomen

Samenvatting

De gevolgen van kindermishandeling lijken verder te reiken dan de huidige posttraumatische stresssymptomen en te verschillen van de gevolgen van eenmalige trauma’s. De huidige studie heeft tot doel deze assumpties te toetsen. De Trauma Symptom Checklist for Children (tscc) wordt gebruikt om op ptss-symptomen en traumagerelateerde symptomen te screenen, bij 253 kinderen. De Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (sdq) wordt gebruikt om niet-traumagerelateerde klachten te inventariseren. Kinderen blootgesteld aan een eenmalig trauma, laten ernstigere ptss-klachten en traumagerelateerde klachten zien. Niet-traumagerelateerde klachten zijn ernstiger bij kinderen blootgesteld aan kindermishandeling. Voor beide groepen geldt dat klinische ptss samenhangt met ernstigere mate van traumagerelateerde klachten. De waarschijnlijkheid dat kinderen aan de criteria van ptss voldoen, wordt minder wanneer trauma complexere vormen aanneemt. Dit is in lijn met onze veronderstelling dat, in tegenstelling tot de gevolgen van een eenmalig trauma, de gevolgen van kindermishandeling verder reiken dan de huidige ptss-symptomen.
