Schers H. Continuïteit 50 jaar later: waar staan we? Huisarts Wet 2006;49(12):611-4.Continuïteit is een van de kernwaarden van de huisartsgeneeskunde. In dit artikel worden diverse concepten en onderdelen van continuïteit belicht. Het huidige wetenschappelijke onderzoek richt zich vooral op de meerwaarde van persoonlijke continuïteit. Teamcontinuïteit en continuïteit van informatie worden zelden onderzocht. Het bewijs dat continuïteit leidt tot betere uitkomsten op harde effectmaten ontbreekt. Er zijn wel veel aanwijzingen dat meer continuïteit leidt tot meer patiënttevredenheid, tot meer vertrouwen in de dokter en tot het gevoel bij patiënten weer vooruit te kunnen. Wereldwijd is er aandacht voor continuïteit in diverse visiedocumenten van huisartsgeneeskundige organisaties. In de toekomst zal de betekenis van continuïteit deels verschuiven; minder aandacht voor persoonlijke continuïteit en meer aandacht voor teamcontinuïteit en continuïteit van informatie.
