The editors of the book CBT for children and adolescents with High Functioning Autism (HFA) Spectrum Disorders have captured the term Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in a manner I have yet to encounter in other treatment books. This book is not simply a practice book but one that is guided by theoretical framework from the beginning. The theoretical guidance within the book lead to the practice models and the skills/techniques to be used with adolescents on the spectrum. Much of the book offers a prescriptive approach for treatment and a step-by-step of how to engage, assess and provide appropriate treatment. This kind of approach can aid practitioners greatly in the assessment and treatment as many of us around the country and the world are eager to find appropriate and effective treatment modalities for adolescents on the spectrum. One of the many parts of the book I appreciated the most was the focus on the collaborative effort between the clinician and the client in the treatment process. This kind of approach makes the treatment an ethical one and such that is most defiantly more consistent with EBP. …
