Spel en vrijheid: een uitstapje naar enkele ideologische stromingen achter de geschiedenis van de systeemgeoriënteerde gezinstherapie

Samenvatting

In dit artikel reflecteren we op de gezinstherapie en haar geschiedenis, vanuit twee invalshoeken: de gezinstherapie als een entiteit die te begrijpen valt met behulp van het tweeledige begrip ‘spel’ en het tweeledige begrip ‘vrijheid’. De speltheorie is altijd al gebruikt om de systemische gezinstherapie te begrijpen, maar de ontwikkeling daarvan kan beter worden begrepen als we bedenken dat ‘spel’ op zichzelf een dualistisch begrip is dat op een culturele en een logisch-wiskundige manier kan worden opgevat. We laten zien hoe de manier waarop de spelmetafoor is toegepast op het systemische denken is bepaald door het heersende culturele ethos. Daarnaast beschrijven we hoe het idee van Isaiah Berlin, over twee onverenigbare opvattingen van vrijheid, de gezinstherapie op zo’n manier van context voorziet dat de verbanden met sociaal-politieke theorieën duidelijk worden. We denken erin te zijn geslaagd om te laten zien hoe het begrip van de ideeëngeschiedenis van de gezinstherapie dankzij deze twee nieuwe contexten wordt verrijkt. We stellen dat uit onze reflecties voortvloeit dat gezinstherapie in wezen een dualistische onderneming is, met in het hart ervan een gat dat niet te repareren valt, maar waar we alleen bij kunnen stilstaan; dat we om integer gezinstherapie te kunnen bedrijven beide botsende visies in ere moeten houden; en dat we de situatie niet moeten proberen te versimpelen door een van beide visies los te laten. Daarmee proberen we in dit artikel voort te bouwen op het idee dat oorspronkelijk is gepresenteerd in het artikel ‘Strategy and intervention or non-intervention: A matter of theory’, door Harold Goolishian and Harlene Anderson.
