Samenvatting

Tegelijkertijd met de verschijning van hun handboek (Bateman & Fonagy, 2004) waren Anthony Bateman en Peter Fonagy, op ‘wereldreis’ van Singapore tot Zuid Afrika, te gast bij de Symforagroep om een tweedaagse workshop te houden. Hun Mentalization based treatment (MBT) kreeg internationaal bekendheid nadat de effectiviteit van deze behandelvorm wereldkundig was gemaakt. MBT werd toegepast in een analytisch georiënteerde deeltijdbehandeling met een duur van 18 maanden en zij werd vergeleken met de gebruikelijke psychiatrische zorg bij patiënten met een borderlinepersoonlijkheidsstoornis (Bateman & Fonagy, 1999).
