Observatieschalen voor emotionele beschikbaarheid.

Een instrument voor onderzoeks- en klinische praktijk

Abstract

De ‘Observatieschalen voor emotionele beschikbaarheid’, ontwikkeld door Biringen, Robinson en Emde, zijn een instrument dat zijn nut bewijst op het raakvlak van onderzoeks- en klinische praktijk. Vanuit klinisch oogpunt kan dit instrument een rol spelen bij de diagnostische evaluatie van de kwaliteit van de ouder-kindrelatie. Het kan hulp bieden bij de inschatting van de nood aan therapeutische begeleiding in risicosituaties of in geval van een hulpvraag. Het kan anderzijds, door herevaluatie en groepsvergelijking, van betekenis zijn in het onderzoek naar de resultaten van interventie op dit niveau.
In het onderhavige artikel wordt dit observatie-instrument gesitueerd: aan bod komen de schalen, de conceptualisering en een overzicht van recente onderzoeksresultaten die met deze schalen verkregen zijn. Tot slot volgt een voorbeeld van de klinische relevantie van het instrument.

Met het woord ‘ouder’ of ‘moeder’ verwijs ik steeds naar de primaire verzorgende figuur. In de realiteit is dit de moeder of de vader, maar het kan evenzeer gaan over de onthaal-, pleeg- en adoptiemoeder of de kinderverzorgster in de kinderopvang.

De kinderdagverblijven waarnaar Aviezer, Sagi en Koren-Karie (2003) verwijzen, verschillen kwalitatief het meest van andere opvangvormen. Het gaat om groepsopvang, waarbij er weinig continuïteit is in de relatie tussen verzorgster en kind en er vrij veel kinderen aan elke verzorgster toegewezen zijn. Dit onderzoek doet met andere woorden geen uitspraken over kinderopvang in het algemeen, maar over een specifieke vorm ervan.
