Psychologische kenmerken van meisjes met het syndroom van Turner

Samenvatting

In dit artikel wordt een overzicht gegeven van het psychosociaal functioneren van meisjes met ts. Op grond van de recente literatuurgegevens worden de belangrijkste psychologische kenmerken gerubriceerd in 4 categorieën: neurocognitief profiel, psychosociaal-emotioneel profiel, gedrag en gedragspathologie, en psychoseksueel profiel. Tevens wordt aandacht besteed aan de onderzoeksbevindingen betreffende de effecten van hormoonbehandelingen op het psychosociaal functioneren. Hoewel vooral op het gebied van het neurocognitief en psychosociaal functioneren specifieke problemen kunnen worden onderscheiden, wordt benadrukt dat bij meisjes met ts sprake is van een grote variabiliteit, zowel wat betreft de genetische uitrusting en lichamelijke kenmerken, als op het gebied van de psychologische kenmerken. Het artikel wordt besloten met een aantal adviezen voor ouders en hulpverleners.
