Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk vertrekt vanuit de zienswijze dat ons seksuele gedrag ook samenhangt met onze psychologische structuur en ons psychologisch functioneren. Mede door persoonlijkheidsverschillen zijn er ook seksuele verschillen tussen mensen. Waar in H. 5, dat complementair is met dit hoofdstuk, wordt gefocust op de interpersoonlijke dimensie van seksualiteit, wordt hier een psychologisch gezichtspunt geïllustreerd met enkele psychologische theorieën gericht op het individu. Aan bod komen het evolutionaire perspectief, seksualiteit als een informatieverwerkingssysteem en seksualiteit als een resultaat van persoonlijkheidsverschillen tussen mensen. Afgesloten wordt met enkele problemen van individueel psychologische benaderingen van seksualiteit.
