5. Een interpersoonlijk perspectief op seksualiteit: over relaties en seks

Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk vertrekt vanuit de vaststelling dat het huidige seksonderzoek niet goed is afgestemd op de realiteit. Hoewel seks meestal in de context van een relatie plaatsvindt, vertrekt het meeste onderzoek naar seksualiteit vanuit een individueel perspectief. Om de wisselwerking tussen seksualiteit en relaties beter te begrijpen, wordt hier dieper ingegaan op verschillende theoretische kaders (evolutionair perspectief, sociaal uitwisselingsperspectief, hechtingsperspectief, rol van hormonen) en worden de klinische implicaties daarvan beschreven. Los van deze theoretische beschouwingen wordt er ook specifiek ingezoomd op de wisselwerking tussen partners tijdens seks. Dit nieuwe perspectief confronteert onderzoekers met nieuwe onderzoeksvragen en stelt hen voor nieuwe methodologische uitdagingen; ook hierop wordt kort ingegaan.
