Patiëntveiligheid vanuit de patiënt

Perspectief van ouders

Samenvatting

In de huidige praktijk is patiëntveiligheid een belangrijk onderwerp in de zorg. Met name in de kinderverpleegkunde en kindergeneeskunde is de zorg reeds jaren gericht op de veiligheid van het kind en de ouders. In toenemende mate krijgen de ouders meer inspraak in het kwaliteits- en veiligheidsbeleid. Vandaar dat de samenwerking tussen ouders en zorgverleners een belangrijke component is van een patiëntveiligheidsbeleid. Tegelijkertijd is er ook toenemende aandacht voor family-centered care. Hierin liggen de principes van ouderparticipatie verankerd. Echter, de uitdaging ligt bij de zorgverleners om de ouders ruimte te bieden en middelen aan te reiken om de betrokkenheid in de zorg te vergroten. Open communicatie en het scheppen van een vertrouwensband waarbij de ouders zich veilig voelen om hun wensen en behoeften uit te spreken, zijn belangrijke randvoorwaarden. Een nieuwe trend zijn vragenlijsten die de ervaringen en tevredenheid van ouders meten. Deze vorm van betrokkenheid biedt ouders het perspectief om anoniem feedback te geven aan de zorgverleners. De zorgverleners kunnen op hun beurt leren van de ervaringen van ouders en mogelijk de kwaliteit en veiligheid op een verpleegafdeling verbeteren. In deze snel veranderende maatschappij zullen de zorgverleners moeten accepteren dat de rol van de ouders verandert van waarnemer naar (mede)beoordelaar.
