Samenvatting

Dit onderzoek onderzocht directe en indirecte effecten van ouderlijke persoonlijkheidskenmerken (gemeten volgens het Vijf Factor Model) en negatief opvoedingshandelen op externaliserend probleemgedrag bij 599 kinderen uit een proportioneel gestratificeerde steekproef. Consistent met eerder onderzoek, werden de effecten van Extraversie, Vriendelijkheid, Emotionele stabiliteit en Autonomie gemedieerd door negatief opvoedingshandelen (Overreactiviteit, Laksheid en Coërciviteit). Daarnaast – en in tegenstelling tot Pattersons theoretisch model – hadden persoonlijkheidskenmerken echter ook een direct effect op probleemgedrag. Zowel in de moeder- als in de vaderrapporteringen waren Emotionele stabiliteit en Zorgvuldigheid negatief en Autonomie positief gerelateerd aan externaliserend probleemgedrag bij kinderen.
