Samenvatting

Een ergotherapeut werkt methodisch met een persoon (en zijn systeem), een organisatie of een populatie. Het methodisch handelen van een ergotherapeut kan omschreven worden als doelgericht professioneel handelen, volgens bepaalde stappen in een cyclisch proces. Methodisch handelen is systematisch, procesmatig, bewust, doelgericht en dynamisch. Dit proces van systematische besluitvorming wordt onderbouwd vanuit een ergotherapeutisch referentiekader. Dit betekent dat een vraag die gesteld wordt aan een ergotherapeut, zal leiden tot cliëntgecentreerde interventies (client-centered) die focussen op het dagelijks handelen (occupation-based) in de omgeving (context-based) en bewezen effectief zijn (evidence-based) (Hartingsveldt et al. 2010). In het proces gaan de cliënt en de ergotherapeut een therapeutische relatie aan, waarbij de dialoog tussen beiden centraal staat, zodat zij samen de vragen over het dagelijks handelen/de participatie bespreken, begrijpen en oplossen of voorkomen. Om een vraag te inventariseren, te interpreteren en op te lossen maakt een ergotherapeut met de cliënt tijdens het methodisch handelen door middel van gezamenlijke besluitvorming een bewuste afweging tussen de verschillende mogelijkheden op grond van evidence, referentiekaders en ervaringen (zie fig. 24.1).
