De gevolgen van traumatisch hersenletsel, een onderschat probleem in de huisartsenpraktijk?

Samenvatting

Vugts MCJ, Geurtsen GJ, Martina JD, Voerman VF, Rulkens MP, Kuiper AY. De gevolgen van traumatisch hersenletsel, een onderschat probleem in de huisartsenpraktijk? Huisarts Wet 2005;48(11)576-80.
Na een schedeltrauma komen frequent lichamelijke, cognitieve of psychische klachten voor. Door tijdig patiënten met mogelijk hersenletsel te herkennen en te begeleiden kan de huisarts voorkomen dat posttraumatische klachten chronisch worden. Desondanks zal de maatschappelijke reïntegratie bij een deel van de patiënten met traumatisch hersenletsel mislukken. Dergelijke patiënten komen in aanmerking voor behandeling en begeleiding door een revalidatieteam dat gespecialiseerd is in de late gevolgen van niet-aangeboren hersenletsel.
