De eerste toepassing van een web-based terugkoppeling van kwaliteit-van-leven-gegevens bij kinderen

Samenvatting

Inleiding

Kinderen met een chronische ziekte kunnen problemen ondervinden op het gebied van kwaliteit van leven (KvL). Deze problemen zijn niet altijd bekend bij de kinderarts en worden meestal niet systematisch besproken. Echter, voor kind en ouder is het van belang dat hier aandacht voor is. Dit is mogelijk door middel van patient-reported outcomes (PRO’s): antwoorden van de patiënten op vragenlijsten worden weergegeven in een PROfiel. Het PROfiel wordt door de arts met de patiënt besproken. Dit is de eerste studie naar het gebruik van een online PROfiel in de kindergeneeskunde.

In het Emma Kinderziekenhuis loopt de KLIK (Kwaliteit van Leven in Kaart)-studie bij kinderen met juveniele idiopathische artritis (JIA). Het gebruik van PRO’s in de praktijk brengt logistieke problemen met zich mee. Een web-based toepassing kan deze problemen overbruggen, daarom is de websitewww.​hetklikt.​nu ontwikkeld. Via deze website kunnen kinderen en ouders thuis KvL-vragenlijsten invullen en de artsen kunnen tijdens het consult het PROfiel online opvragen.

De KLIK-studie

De KLIK-studie is in augustus 2008 gestart en gaat na of het gebruik van de terugkoppeling van KvL-gegevens van kinderen met JIA aan kinderreumatologen een positief effect heeft op tevredenheid met de zorg, communicatie, het aantal adviezen en verwijzingen. In deze multicenter studie worden de consulten zonder het gebruik van het PROfiel (controlegroep) vergeleken met de consulten met het gebruik van het PROfiel (interventiegroep). Om contaminatie in de controlegroep te voorkomen is er gekozen voor een sequentieel cohortdesign.

Discussie

In het Emma Kinderziekenhuis is de laatste jaren intensief onderzoek gedaan naar het systematisch in kaart brengen en bespreken van KvL-gegevens in de klinische praktijk van kinderen met een chronische ziekte. Een online PROfiel lijkt een geschikt hulpmiddel te zijn om dit te realiseren.
