Handelen op basis van Theory of Mind-kennis bij kinderen uit het autisme-spectrum

Samenvatting

In dit onderzoek is gekeken of het belang dat hoogfunctionerende kinderen uit het spectrum van autistische stoornissen hebben bij het volbrengen van een taak katalyserend werkt op het toepassen van hun Theory of Mind (ToM)-kennis. De kinderen voerden twee taakjes uit. Een medewerker saboteerde beide taken, waardoor een ‘false belief’ bij de tijdelijk afwezige proefleider werd gecreëerd, die door de PDD-NOS-kinderen eerder gecorrigeerd werd bij de taak waarvoor een beloning in het vooruitzicht was gesteld. Dit effect bleef uit bij kinderen met autisme. Deze resultaten wijzen erop dat sociale en communicatieve factoren een rol kunnen spelen in het toepassen van ToM-kennis bij deze klinische groep.
