6. De seksuele levensloop

Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk staat seksualiteit ‘vanaf de conceptie tot aan het graf’ centraal. Na een situering van de seksuele levenssloop binnen een theoretisch perspectief, wordt de seksuele levensloop beschreven aan de hand van een aantal fasen. In deze beschrijving is er aandacht voor zowel seksuele kennis, seksueel gedrag, als de betekenis die mensen zelf aan seksualiteit geven. Dit overzicht toont dat seksualiteit voor zowel mannen als vrouwen levenslang een belangrijk onderdeel is van hun (kwaliteit van) leven. Er is daarbij ook beperkt aandacht voor de seksuele levensloop van mensen met een niet-heteroseksuele oriëntatie. Er wordt afgesloten met een discussie waarin er ook aandacht is voor zowel inhoudelijke als methodologische elementen die het onderzoeksveld nog kunnen versterken.
