Samenvatting

Tijdens duiken is de druk in het lichaam gelijk aan de omgevingsdruk, welke toeneemt met de diepte. De toegenomen partiële stikstofdruk leidt tot stikstofnarcose en een opname van stikstof in bloed en weefsels. Decompressieziekte ontstaat indien de opstijging relatief te snel gaat in verhouding tot de hoeveelheid stikstof in de weefsels. Er ontstaan dan te veel en te grote bellen in bloed en weefsels. Een verhoogde partiële zuurstofdruk kan aanleiding geven tot pulmonale en neurologische zuurstoftoxiciteit. Tijdens stijgen en dalen leiden afgesloten luchthoudende holtes in het lichaam tot barotraumata. Longoverdrukletsel kan resulteren in een cerebrale arteriële gasembolie. Tijdens duiken neemt de diurese toe. Dehydratie verhoogt de kans op het krijgen van decompressieziekte. Bij duikongevallen geeft men altijd 100 % zuurstof en vocht. Het uitvoeren van een duikmedische keuring vergt specifieke expertise en ervaring.
