Samenvatting

Een goede therapeutische relatie draagt ook bij cliënten met een antisociale persoonlijkheidsstoornis (ASPS) bij aan een betere behandeluitkomst. Het opbouwen van een therapeutische relatie met cliënten met ASPS lijkt gecompliceerd te zijn omdat een kernprobleem van deze doelgroep juist bestaat uit het niet of moeizaam kunnen opbouwen van goed functionerende, wederkerige samenwerkingsrelaties. In de wetenschappelijke literatuur komen we verschillende benaderingen tegen wat betreft de manier waarop behandelaren cliënten met ASPS het beste tegemoet zouden kunnen treden. Het gaat om een meer begrenzende dan wel een meer psychotherapeutische benadering. Deze verschillen worden ook beschreven door de ervaringen van cliënten met ASPS. Zij zeggen behoefte te hebben aan behandelaren die hen met een positieve en open houding tegemoet treden, maar die tegelijkertijd duidelijk zijn en stevig in hun schoenen staan. Dit stelt behandelaren regelmatig voor dilemma’s en stelt eisen aan behandelteams en de organisatie van de zorg.
