Culturele reflexiviteit en de hulpvraag: een discoursanalyse van drie beginsessies van interculturele relatietherapie

Samenvatting

In dit artikel doen we verslag van een onderzoek naar de transcripten van drie op dvd opgenomen beginsessies van relatietherapie met een intercultureel koppel. Voor dit onderzoek hebben we gebruik gemaakt van een combinatie van macro- en micro-analytische benaderingen van discoursanalyse. We hebben de machtsstrategieën geanalyseerd die de deelnemers gebruiken om hun eigen interpretatie van de hulpvraag naar voren te brengen. Met het accent op het raakvlak van gender, psychopathologie en cultuur hebben we gekeken naar de bredere sociaal-culturele discoursen die uitgespeeld worden in de micro-context van de gesprekken tussen de deelnemers. Ook hebben we gekeken naar de manier waarop discoursen van de cliënten tijdens therapeutische interventies strategisch en onbedoeld worden bevoordeeld of naar de achtergrond worden geschoven. We reiken een aantal klinische methoden aan die gebruikt kunnen worden om met de uit ons onderzoek voortgekomen dilemma’s om te gaan. Tot slot willen we benadrukken dat het voor de verbetering van de culturele reflexiviteit belangrijk is om opnamen en transcripten van therapeutische gesprekken kritisch te bekijken.
