Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk biedt een oriëntatie op het brede en complexe begrip ‘context’ in relatie tot het dagelijks handelen van mensen en ergotherapie. Er wordt uitgegaan van een dynamische transactie tussen persoon, context en activiteiten. De context biedt diverse aangrijpingspunten voor ergotherapeuten om het dagelijks handelen van een persoon, systeem, organisatie of populatie te optimaliseren. De ergotherapeut kan de context doelgericht gebruiken of aanpassen om het dagelijks handelen te bevorderen of handelingsbeperkingen te voorkomen. Om bewuste, doelgerichte en contextgerichte ergotherapeutische interventies te ontwerpen wordt het veelomvattende begrip ‘context’ beschreven aan de hand van verschillende aspecten: fysieke omgeving; sociale omgeving; culturele context; temporele context; virtuele context. Diverse toepassingsgebieden binnen de ergotherapie worden aan de hand van voorbeelden toegelicht.
