2 Specialistisch somatisch onderzoek

Samenvatting

Er zijn twee redenen om bij psychiatrische patiënten specialistisch somatisch onderzoek zoals bloed- en urineonderzoek, beeldvormend en neurofysiologisch onderzoek te laten verrichten. De eerste is vooral klinisch-praktisch: het uitsluiten (of vaststellen) van niet-psychiatrische ziekten die de psychiatrische stoornis zouden kunnen verklaren of als comorbiditeit van belang zijn voor een adequate behandeling. De tweede is vooral wetenschappelijk: het zoeken naar veranderingen in biochemie, fysiologie en anatomie die samenhangen met de psychiatrische stoornissen zelf. Op het eerste wordt kort ingegaan en voor het overige richt dit hoofdstuk zich voornamelijk op specialistische somatische research naar biologische parameters van psychiatrische stoornissen.
