Abstract

Vanaf het allereerste begin (pantoffeldiertje, zeester, worm) is het reageren op prikkels van belang geweest: bepaalde stereotiepe reflexreacties hadden voor het dier een zeker nut. Geleidelijk werden deze reacties gecompliceerder en vormden zich zogenaamde fixed action patterns, ingewikkelde, voorgeprogrammeerde en aangeboren gedragspatronen zoals nestbouwgedrag, paarrituelen en predatie.
