Samenvatting

Vaginisme wordt meestal omschreven als een aanhoudend probleem met het inbrengen in de vagina van de penis of een ander voorwerp, waaronder ook vingers. Wij spreken van levenslang of primair vaginisme wanneer gemeenschap nooit mogelijk is geweest, ondanks de nadrukkelijke wens en pogingen van de vrouw. Dit hoofdstuk laat zien dat angst en vermijding belangrijke factoren zijn die de klacht in stand houden en eventueel kunnen verergeren. Er wordt uitgebreid stilgestaan bij de verschillende interventies die gebruikt kunnen worden bij de behandeling van levenslang vaginisme.
