Sprongen en catastrofes

Samenvatting

De cusp is een model ontleend aan de catastrofetheorie. In ontwikkelingspsychologisch onderzoek wordt het model toegepast om inzicht te verwerven in stadiaovergangen. In deze bijdrage worden een aantal begrippen uit de catastrofetheorie uitgelegd, onder andere aan de hand van het verschijnsel verliefdheid. Daarna wordt de geometrie van de cusp toegelicht, gevolgd door twee empirische toepassingen. Tot slot wordt ingegaan op het belang en de reikwijdte van het model.
