Psychoanalyse, psychoanalytische psychotherapie en wetenschappelijke evidentie

Samenvatting

Psychotherapie dient aangetoond werkzaam te zijn. Zorginstituut Nederland (ZN) heeft eisen opgesteld voor het wetenschappelijk bewijs dat daarvoor nodig is. Welke psychodynamische of psychoanalytische behandelingen voldoen daaraan? Dit artikel geeft een overzicht van de huidige bewijskracht voor psychodynamische psychotherapie als een effectieve behandeling bij volwassen patiënten met depressie, angststoornissen en persoonlijkheidsstoornissen. Het is gebaseerd op acht meta-analyses die zich specifiek richten op de effectiviteit van psychodynamische psychotherapie. Hierin zijn de resultaten van 132 primaire onderzoeken, overwegend randomized controlled trials (RCT’s), geïntegreerd. De auteurs vergelijken de resultaten met de uitkomsten van de meest recente meta-analyses over de effectiviteit van psychologische behandelingen in het algemeen, waarin specifieke behandelingen met elkaar worden vergeleken. Voor talloze psychodynamische behandelingen bestaat voldoende evidentie om aan de ZN-eisen voor wetenschappelijk bewijs te voldoen, omdat er voldoende kwalitatief adequate onderzoeken zijn aangetroffen waaruit blijkt dat de effecten niet of nauwelijks verschillen van andere behandelingen.
