15. Preventie van put- en fissuurcariës

Samenvatting

In 1923 introduceerde Hyatt de profylactische odontotomie. Hierbij werden putten en fissuren preventief met een smalle boor geopend en gerestaureerd met amalgaam. De gedachte achter deze methode was dat de preparatie en restauratie kleiner gehouden konden worden dan wanneer gewacht werd tot er cariës optrad. Maar in feite betekende deze ‘preventieve’ behandeling dat een op dat moment nog gaaf vlak in een restauratiecyclus terechtkwam.
