16. Preventie van wortelcariës

Samenvatting

Dankzij goede preventieve en restauratieve maatregelen gaan steeds minder elementen op jeugdige leeftijd verloren en blijven gebitselementen langer behouden. Bij het ouder worden neemt de kans op terugtrekken van de gingiva toe ten gevolge van verkeerde poetsmethoden, parodontale aandoeningen en parodontale behandelingen. Het gevolg is dat voorheen door gingiva en bot bedekte tandworteloppervlakken bloot worden gesteld aan het mondmilieu, waardoor kans op wortelcariës ontstaat.
