8. Persoonlijkheidsstoornissen in DSM-5

Samenvatting

Bij elke revisie van de DSM is tot op heden steeds langdurig gediscussieerd over het belang en de waarde van een meer dimensionale benadering versus de, gebruikelijke, categoriale die minder valide zou zijn. Dat is zo ook gegaan bij de opzet van de DSM-5. Ondanks de bezwaren tegen een categoriaal systeem blijft in de DSM-5 het gebruik van een dergelijk systeem voor het typeren van persoonlijkheidsstoornissen gehandhaafd. Wel zijn er kleine aanpassingen gemaakt, die in dit hoofdstuk worden samengevat. Het gegeven dat de aanpassing slechts minimaal is, maakt dat de bestaande assessmentinstrumenten voor de DSM-IV-persoonlijkheidsstoornissen gebruikt kunnen blijven worden. Deze instrumenten worden in dit hoofdstuk besproken, zij het in korter bestek dan in de vorige uitgave van dit boek, omdat veel van de psychometrische gegevens als bekend worden verondersteld en daardoor redundant zijn geworden. De bespreking van het nieuwe DSM-5 dimensionale model voor persoonlijkheidsstoornissen en de momenteel nog beperkte operationalisatie daarvan in nieuwe instrumenten komen elders in dit boek ter sprake.
