5. Neuropsychologische aspecten van persoonlijkheidsstoornissen

Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk verkennen we wat de mogelijkheden en toepassingen van de neuropsychologie kunnen zijn op het gebied van de persoonlijkheidsstoornissen en persoonlijkheidspathologie. Hiertoe gaan we op zoek naar empirische studies die het verband onderzoeken tussen neuropsychologische variabelen en de persoonlijkheidsstoornissen. Er zijn zeer veel studies verricht naar de neuropsychologische kenmerken van psychiatrische symptoomstoornissen. De vraag is of dit ook geldt voor de persoonlijkheidsstoornissen. De volgende vraag is of uit de beschikbare empirische onderzoeken al consistente conclusies te trekken zijn, die het neuropsychologisch onderzoek bij de individuele patiënt met een persoonlijkheidsstoornis een specifieke richting kunnen geven. Met andere woorden, kan er op basis van empirische resultaten aangegeven worden welke neuropsychologische functiedomeinen dienen te worden onderzocht bij patiënten met persoonlijkheidsstoornissen en welke tests in dit verband gekozen moeten worden?
