Internaliserende problematiek in de kindertijd als risicofactor

Samenvatting

Langdurige, ernstig internaliserende problematiek in de jeugd, zoals angst- en stemmingsstoornissen, PTSS, maar ook (chronisch) trauma en de reactieve hechtingsstoornis, zijn mogelijke voorlopers van het ontwikkelen van een persoonlijkheidsstoornis in de volwassenheid. Zeker wanneer internaliserende en externaliserende problematiek tegelijkertijd voorkomen, is de kans op de ontwikkeling van ernstige psychopathologie vergroot. Verwaarlozing of mishandeling in de jeugd vergroot deze kans ook. Ingrijpende levensgebeurtenissen, negatieve hechtingservaringen, leerproblemen en temperamentproblemen kunnen in wisselwerking met elkaar aanleiding geven tot een stagnatie in de cognitief-affectieve ontwikkeling. In dit hoofdstuk worden deze ontwikkelingslijnen geschetst vanuit zowel een jeugdpsychiatrisch als een retrospectief volwassenenperspectief. Tot slot wordt ingegaan op beschermende factoren voor het ontwikkelen van een persoonlijkheidsstoornis en wordt iets verteld over de studie naar veerkracht bij kinderen.
