Neuropsychologisch onderzoek bij de ziekte van Alzheimer: een casusbeschrijving

Samenvatting

Dit artikel bespreekt het diagnostisch neuropsychologisch onderzoek bij dementievraagstellingen. Dit wordt gedaan aan de hand van een casus. Er is met name aandacht voor nieuwe ziektecriteria ten aanzien van dementie en neuropsychologische onderzoeksmethodieken in het algemeen, en bij de ziekte van Alzheimer in het bijzonder. De casus betreft een man die zich op 76-jarige leeftijd meldt bij een geheugenpolikliniek van een algemeen ziekenhuis. Bij neuropsychologisch onderzoek wordt een geheugenstoornis vastgesteld. Het totale beeld voldoet aanvankelijk niet aan de criteria van een dementiesyndroom. Hoewel bij een herhaling van het neuropsychologisch onderzoek, ruim een jaar later, geen evidente achteruitgang wordt geobjectiveerd, zijn er toch redenen om aan te nemen dat bij deze patiënt sprake is van de ziekte van Alzheimer.
