Neuroanatomie van de dwangstoornis

Samenvatting

De obsessieve compulsieve stoornis (ocs; in het Engels ‘obsessive-compulsive disorder’, afgekort tot ocd en in het Nederlands ook wel dwangstoornis genoemd) is een veelvoorkomende en chronische neuropsychiatrische stoornis die gekenmerkt wordt door obsessies (dwanggedachten) en compulsies (dwanghandelingen). Obsessies zijn steeds terugkerende intrusieve gedachten of beelden die als opdringend en niet-eigen beleefd worden. Ze veroorzaken angst of spanning. Als reactie op dit ongemak worden ter neutralisatie compulsies uitgevoerd. Compulsies zijn repetitieve gedragingen zoals controlehandelingen of mentale activiteiten zoals het opzeggen van goede gedachten. Deze kennen vaak een ritueel karakter of moeten uitgevoerd worden volgens strikte regels. De diagnose ocs wordt vastgesteld als de klachten meer dan één uur per dag bestaan en significant interfereren met het dagelijkse leven.
