Muziekluistergedrag van jongeren met verslaving: steun en risico

Samenvatting

Muziek luisteren speelt een belangrijke rol in het leven van verslaafde jongeren. Enerzijds gebruiken ze muziek om hun stemming te reguleren; dat is positief. Anderzijds kan diezelfde muziek herinneringen oproepen aan middelengebruik, wat ongunstig kan uitwerken. Dit artikel onderzoekt dit spanningsveld door middel van literatuuronderzoek en een kleine enquête onder 31 verslaafde jongeren. Jongeren zetten daadwerkelijk muziek in om hun stemming te reguleren, met name om emoties te dempen. Het luisteren naar ‘gebruikersmuziek’ (muziek beluisterd bij eerder gebruik van drugs en alcohol) roept geregeld herinneringen op aan bedoeld gebruik. Vaak is die muziek favoriet; de jongeren luisteren ernaar en stellen zich zo bloot aan cues voor het consumeren van drugs of alcohol. Dit artikel belicht welke implicaties dit spanningsveld heeft voor hulpverleners.
