Hearing Voices is one of the very few books on the market to attempt to analyze early psychosis from a variety of angles. The book was based on presentations at an international summit that occurred in Toronto in October 2007. The book creates a narrative that explains the disease from the viewpoint of both patients and practitioners. First, the book focuses on multiple individuals’ personal experiences with psychosis. The text provides an in-depth discussion of different episodes of psychosis and how the disease has affected individuals’ lives in relation to their family, friend, and community relationships. The text then discusses how different types of intervention affected these individuals’ lives, with the main discussion including family support and clinical intervention. Finally, the book illustrates the disease from the viewpoint of professional help, capturing the psychosis picture from the lens of clinicians across the world. …
