For health professionals, treating troubled teens and youth can be a challenge as many are aversive to talk therapy (Bennett et al. 2017; Blankenship 1995). Alternate modalities, such as Art Therapy (Linesch 2016), Music Therapy (Rosado 2019), and Expressive Writing (Travagin et al. 2015), have met with more success. But what about self-help books? Do teens respond to them? The answer is yes. Studies indicate, however, that visual formats are more engaging than presentations based on text alone (Cook 2017; Reiss et al. 2007). Studies also indicate that multiple modalities are best for dealing with higher-level concepts (Fradkin 2019a, 2019b, 2020; Sligo and Tilley 2011). So what format might be best to reach these troubled teens? The literature suggests the graphic novel. A contender in this genre of hybrid presentation is Janina Scarlet’s Dark Agents. …
