Integratieve geneeskunde, een nieuwe zorgvisie

Samenvatting

Integratieve geneeskunde (IM) is een nieuwe visie op gezondheid en gezondheidszorg, die ontstaan is in Noord-Amerika en zich de laatste jaren heeft ontwikkeld tot een wereldwijde beweging. Het wordt gekenmerkt door een meer gelijkwaardige arts-patiëntverhouding, aandacht voor preventie, het betrekken van alle aspecten in iemands leven die een rol kunnen spelen in ziekte en gezondheid, en een combinatie van de reguliere geneeskunde met het beste van complementaire en alternatieve behandelingen. In dit artikel wordt aangegeven wat IM inhoudt, er wordt ingegaan op de geschiedenis van IM, en de behoefte aan IM in de Nederlandse kindergeneeskunde. Ten slotte wordt besproken op welke wijze IM door de Nederlandse kinderarts kan worden bedreven met inachtneming van het wetenschappelijk bewijs voor veiligheid en effectiviteit van complementaire behandelingen.
