4. Hechtingsstijl, lichamelijk functioneren en ziektegedrag

Samenvatting

Relatief recent heeft de hechtingstheorie, en de uitwerking daarvan in de theorie over mentaliseren en het epistemisch vertrouwen, de belangstelling gewekt van zowel onderzoekers als clinici dankzij de grote verklaringskracht van het model en de toepasbaarheid in de klinische praktijk (Fonagy et al. 2019). In dit hoofdstuk wordt verduidelijkt dat de hechtingstheorie niet alleen relevant is voor de praktijk van psychologen en psychiaters, maar – zowel theoretisch als praktisch – ook voor de praktijk van ’somatici’. Eerst bespreken we in dit hoofdstuk beknopt de hechtingstheorie. Vervolgens komen de associatie van de verschillende hechtingsstijlen met het risico op krijgen van somatische ziekten en de associatie van de verschillende hechtingsstijlen met ziekte- en gezondheidsgedrag aan de orde. Tot slot wordt besproken hoe de hechtingsstijl meebepalend is voor de interactie en de werkrelatie met de (para-)medisch hulpverlener.
